Duplex Stainless Steel
Duplex stainless steel, blending the strengths of both austenitic and ferritic steels with about 50% ferrite and 30% austenite, excels in the stainless steel category. This alloy offers a unique mix of high strength, exceptional corrosion resistance, and cost efficiency, making it an optimal choice for challenging industrial applications.
What is Duplex Stainless Steel
Duplex Overview
Duplex, a hybrid of austenitic and ferritic steels, combines the best traits of both, with roughly 50% ferrite and at least 30% austenite. This composition not only conserves nickel but also offers a balanced alloy with 18% to 28% chromium and 3% to 10% nickel content, enhanced by elements like Mo, Cu, Nb, Ti, and N. Key grades include S31803, 2205, and 2507.
Key Features of Duplex Stainless Steel
Featuring superior pitting corrosion resistance and outstanding ductility, duplex grade surpasses ferritic steels in toughness, plasticity, weldability, and resistance to intergranular corrosion, without succumbing to room temperature brittleness. When compared to austenitic steels, it stands out for its high strength and exceptional resistance to intergranular and chloride stress corrosion.
Duplex Steel Applications
Employed extensively across the petroleum and natural gas industries, biofuels, and construction sectors, duplex ss plays a pivotal role in industrial infrastructure.
