2507 stainless steel, also known as duplex 2507, super duplex 2507, or UNS S32750, is a ferritic-austenitic (duplex) stainless steel. This material combines many of the beneficial properties of both ferritic and austenitic stainless steels. Due to its high chromium and molybdenum content, 2507 stainless steel exhibits exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and general corrosion, particularly in chloride-containing environments.

2507 stainless steel is renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance, attributed to its high chromium and molybdenum content:

    • General Corrosion: The high chromium and molybdenum content in 2507 stainless steel provide it with strong resistance to overall corrosion from organic acids like formic and acetic acid. It also exhibits excellent resistance to inorganic acids, particularly those containing chlorides. Compared to 904L, 2507 offers superior resistance to diluted sulfuric acid mixed with chloride ions. While 316L is unsuitable for hydrochloric acid environments due to the risk of localized and general corrosion, 2507 can withstand diluted hydrochloric acid with strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

    • Intergranular Corrosion: The low carbon content of 2507 significantly reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during heat treatment, resulting in excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion associated with carbide precipitation.

    • Stress Corrosion Cracking: The duplex structure of 2507 provides high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Its overall corrosion resistance and strength are superior to 2205 duplex stainless steel. In chloride environments, stainless steel is more susceptible to crevice corrosion, which is nearly unavoidable in construction. However, 2507 has a strong resistance to crevice corrosion. Its critical pitting temperature in sulfuric acid containing 2000 ppm chloride ions is 0.1 mm/year, and in hydrochloric acid, it is also 0.1 mm/year.

2507 Mechanical Properties

2507 stainless steel boasts outstanding mechanical properties, making it ideal for various structural and mechanical components:

  • Strength and Impact Resistance: 2507 features high compressive strength and impact resistance, along with a low thermal expansion coefficient and high thermal conductivity, making it suitable for many structural parts and mechanical components. The material’s impact strength is notable, but it should not be exposed to temperatures above 570°F for extended periods, as this may reduce its toughness. The tensile strength is σb ≥ 730 MPa, and the elongation is δ ≥ 20%.

  • Welding Consumables: For optimal performance and to ensure corrosion resistance during welding, it is recommended to use matching welding consumables. Suitable options include ER2594 welding wire and E2594 welding rod, which align with the chemical composition of 2507 and provide excellent welding performance and long-lasting corrosion protection.

How We Pack 2507 Stainless Steel Sheet & Coil

In GHT, all of our stainless steel coils are packaged as per international standard to prevent any possible damage or loss. By default, for quantity less than 1 whole compete coil (our MOQ is 5 tons), we will use woven plastic bag to cover SS coils and then fix them upon wooden pallet for further protection. We can also package the SS coils as per your special requirement, though this can incur extra cost.

In GHT, all of our stainless steel sheets are packaged as per international standard to prevent any possible damage or loss. By default, we will use brown paper to cover SS sheets and then bundle them together onto wooden pallets. At times, upon some customers’ requests, we will also apply reinforced package with extra metal straps fixed on the four corners, though this can incur extra cost. For enhanced customer experience, we also accept customized package as per your requests.
